John Kelly told 'furious' Trump he's willing to resign as chief of staff: report

White House insiders say chief of staff John Kelly has expressed to President Donald Trump his willingness to resign amid the uproar over disgraced ex-staffer Rob Porter's domestic abuse allegations.

Trump, ABC News reported Friday, is "furious" at his chief of staff, and the president's longtime friend Tom Barrack has been approached about replacing him.

Though sources close to both Kelly and Trump told ABC the chief of staff has told the president he's willing to resign within the past 24 hours. Nevertheless, those sources also said "they did not believe [Kelly's] departure is imminent."

Shortly after ABC published their story, White House spokesman Hogan Gidley told CNN Kelly "has not offered to resign."

Kelly defended Porter twice in the aftermath of the publicized abuse accusations, and only when presented with a photo of one of his ex-wives with a black eye did he issue a statement condemning domestic violence.

Trump also defended Porter on Friday, noting his former staff secretary "says he is innocent."
