Van Jones shocked the bar is so low for Trump: 'He gets cookies and ice cream' for trashing the KKK

Donald Trump's son Eric said in an interview Thursday that former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke deserves "a bullet." The elder Trump previously couldn't decide if he denounced the KKK for a few days, ultimately blaming a bad ear piece. VP candidate Mike Pence had the same problem. Ultimately, he settled on opposing both David Duke and the Klan.

CNN panelist Van Jones can't stand the bigotry of low expectations.

"Look, we've gotten to the point now where Donald Trump gets cookies and ice cream and applause for saying bad things about the Klan," Jones said. "That is a very low bar and a very low standard in the United States of America."

"So very good you said something good!" Jones said clapping his hands. "Here is the reality. A tie is not good for Trump."

Daily Beast editor John Avalon agreed Trump has no choice but to denounce the KKK despite having support from white supremacists and former Klan members.

"Let's talk about the demographic map for a second," Avalon began. "It was a major theme in 2012. The country is not getting more white. Campaigns have a fundamental problem, reaching out is a process. Denouncing the KKK endorsement is not akin to reaching out. It actually just reflects common sense. And he's got a demographic math problem that cannot be ignored or the belief that there will be a mythical undiscovered white vote that will come out."
