BBC lawyers were physically blocked by police while attempting to serve subpoenas on Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner at their Miami residence.
According to Politico, this was part of an escalating legal battle in President Donald Trump's $10 billion defamation suit against the broadcaster.
The BBC seeks to subpoena Trump Jr., Ivanka Trump, and Kushner for documents and deposition testimony, arguing they have direct knowledge of Trump's Jan. 6 speech intentions.
According to House January 6 Committee testimony, Trump Jr. and Ivanka were present during speech revisions and delivery, while Kushner drafted a violence-condemning statement.
Trump's lawsuit claims a 2024 BBC documentary defamed him by editing disparate speech portions to suggest he endorsed the Capitol attack.
The BBC has apologized for the edit but denies it constitutes defamation.
Previous service attempts at Miami and Trump Tower locations failed after the Secret Service and Trump's legal team refused to accept subpoenas.
The case faces additional setbacks, with the presiding judge threatening to expose the Trump family's finances.
