On Thursday, disgraced political analyst turned Newsmax commentator Mark Halperin laid out in exquisite detail what he claimed was reporting about how President Joe Biden is planning to announce the end of his presidential run imminently.
But one portion of that reporting, that historian and speechwriter Jon Meacham is crafting an exit speech, has now been debunked by the man himself.
"Historian Jon Meacham to me just now via text: 'the report about my doing anything with a speech is totally false,'" reported CBS chief election correspondent Robert Costa on X. "Comes as Meacham is being talked about by some Democrats as a Biden confidant who might be working on an 'exit the race speech' for President Biden."

This comes after another White House official dismissed Halperin's reporting as "fan fiction."
Among the other things Halperin claimed to have knowledge of were that Biden does not plan to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris to replace him, that there will be an open convention, and that Harris is eyeing Democratic Govs. Andy Beshear, Josh Shapiro, or Gavin Newsom as her potential running mates — although the claim Newsom was in the mix already made little sense, because the 12th Amendment would prohibit two people from California both being on the presidential ticket.
Halperin was ousted from NBC News in 2017 following allegations of sexual harassment.
Thus far, there are no concrete indications Biden plans to drop out, although other sources have claimed that major Democratic officials are mounting the pressure on him with an eye to get him to leave within a few days.
