During the trial for writer E. Jean Carroll's second civil defamation case against Donald Trump, one of the former president's lawyers, Alina Habba, has often clashed with the judge in the case, Lewis Kaplan.

Losing patience with Habba, an irritated Kaplan ordered her to "Sit down." The judge has admonished Habba, "You will not quarrel with me," and on Friday, Kaplan indicated that she was even in danger of being held in contempt of court.

On MSNBC, legal analyst Lisa Rubin noted that Kaplan "was really frustrated with" Habba's antics.

Habba's clashes with Kaplan have been receiving a lot of reactions on X.

MeidasTouch's Ron Filipkowski bluntly tweeted, "In 29 years as a trial lawyer, in state and federal courtrooms nearly every day, I may have seen this happen twice. Turns out being a classless, obnoxious jerk thrills the MAGA cult but doesn't really play in courtrooms."

Republicans Against Trump argued that going out of her way to irritate a judge was not a smart move on Habba's part.

The conservative anti-Trump group tweeted, "OMG. Judge Kaplan just now to Trump's attorney Alina Habba: 'You are on the verge of spending some time in the lockup. Sit down.' Apparently, you can't fake being smart."

Former federal prosecutor Richard Signorelli said of Habba, "I have been trying to think of one word to describe her and I think I found it. Insufferable."

Democratic organizer Victor Shi tweeted, "Amazing. Trump's lawyer Alina Habba referred to Donald Trump as 'President Donald Trump' & Judge Kaplan immediately corrected her, saying that it's 'Donald John Trump.' That's right. Not a president. Not a former president. Trump is just like anyone else in court."
