Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) rebuked some members of his caucus who are trying to tank a bipartisan border reform bill, even though they've been saying for months that the border is an urgent crisis that must be addressed.
During an interview with CNN's Manu Raju, Crenshaw expressed disbelief that his fellow Republicans would really sabotage a bill that would significantly reduce the number of undocumented immigrants coming into the country .
In particular, he accused the bill's critics of not understanding its terms, which were brokered in large part by Sen. James Lankford (R-OH), a well-known immigration hardliner.

"The height of stupidity is having a strong opinion in something you know nothing about," he told Raju. "I'm extremely disappointed in the strange maneuvering by many on the right to torpedo a potential border reform bill."
He also said that, given that Republicans campaigned on securing the border throughout 2022, the party will lose credibility if they don't take the opportunity right now to pass major reforms.
"But if we have a bill, that on net significantly decreases illegal immigration, and we sabotage that, that is inconsistent with what we told our voters we would do," he said, while adding that it would be "dereliction of duty" to not pass the deal.
