President Donald Trump erupted Wednesday over an alleged Democratic election scheme in Alaska, accusing his political opponents of fraud and demanding that two candidates be removed from the state’s Senate ballot.
“It has just been determined that the Democrats in Alaska illegally searched for, and recruited, a man named Dan Sullivan to run against our distinguished Republican Senator, Dan Sullivan,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
The president accused Democrats of trying to “defraud, confuse, and obfuscate the Election,” and claimed the maneuver would take votes away “from the REAL Senator, Dan Sullivan.”
The president’s outburst followed a New York Times investigation that linked Democratic Senate nominee Mary Peltola’s campaign and national Democratic operatives to efforts to recruit another candidate named Dan Sullivan. Peltola’s campaign and national Democrats have denied involvement.
But Trump escalated the accusations Wednesday by demanding consequences for Peltola.
“The Democrats’ false statements were made under oath in Federal Court,” he wrote. “Therefore, they perjured themselves, and should be liable for very serious consequences.”
He then singled out Peltola and demanded that his MAGA Republican ally face neither of his opponents in Alaska's crucial Senate race.
“Mary Peltola should suffer the Legal and Political consequences for what she has done, A FRAUD ON THE AMERICAN PUBLIC,” Trump added.
Trump continued his tirade in two more Truth Social posts, sharing a link to the Times report in a subsequent post with the all-caps declaration, "CROOKED ELECTION IN ALASKA!"
In a third post on the topic, the president again demanded Peltola's removal from the ballot.
"In Alaska, I don’t think Mary Peltola, after perpetrating such a terrible scheme, should be allowed to run, because this is ELECTION FRAUD," Trump wrote.
"The Democrats cheated!" he continued. "They found a man named Dan Sullivan, put him on the Ballot, then lied to the Court, and said they didn’t know anything about it. That’s perjury."
"She shouldn’t be allowed to run, and neither should the FAKE Dan Sullivan!" he added.
Trump's DOJ has already filed a separate lawsuit over the Alaska Senate race. The Alaska Supreme Court previously allowed the second Sullivan to remain on the ballot.
