Lindsey Graham's sister Sen. Darline Graham Nordone (R-SC) has already infuriated her late brother's political base because of a $100 check, according to a new report.
Nordone, the appointed replacement approved by President Donald Trump, donated to state Sen. Katrina Shealy — is backtracking after reports revealed she donated money to a Republican who helped block a near-total abortion ban in South Carolina, the Daily Beast reported Thursday.
The newly sworn-in senator is now in full damage-control mode, taking to social media to explain herself, according to the Beast.
“As a mother, I know that welcoming children into this world is God’s greatest gift," Nordone wrote. "I’m proud to be pro-life and stand up for the unborn and expecting moms.”
Nordone also published a list of seven anti-abortion bills she backs, though several appear to duplicate laws already on the books, including measures banning tax-funded abortions and mandating care for infants born alive during abortion procedures.
The response from the MAGA right was not overwhelmingly positive.
"You’re good friends with Katrina Shealy, the former South Carolina state senator who is PRO-ABORTION and OPPOSED the Heartbeat bill—AND you even donated to her campaign," replied Kelly McCarty, a "Covid accountability" influencer.
"Lies," added X user Teri. "Your BFF is disgraced former state senator Katrina Shealy who was famous for consistently blocking pro-life legislation during her tenure."
"Seems you are having a hard time with the truth," replied Jon Lee Pettimore. "Just words, you donated to pro-abortion SC candidates.. You do realize that public record?"
"Right," added college professor Laura Beth Kirsop. "It was such a 'core conviction' of Senator Nordone that she staunchly supported and backed pro-abortion 'Sister Senator' Katrina Shealy in her failed race. A race she lost because of her pro-abortion position. This campaign is neither honest nor self-aware."
