House Speaker Mike Johnson is planning a sit-down with Elon Musk Friday in Texas as Republicans hope the tech billionaire will pour millions into critical midterm races.
Johnson is expected to meet Musk while campaigning for Republicans across Texas, POLITICO first reported. The face-to-face comes as Musk is reportedly considering pouring at least $100 million to help GOP candidates through his America PAC super PAC.
“Battleground Republicans need Elon’s support and they will always be happy to take a meeting with him,” one person familiar with the scheduling told POLITICO.
The insiders cautioned that Musk’s schedule is “fluid and there could be a last-minute change,” the outlet. While the full details of Musk’s potential spending remain unclear, some Republicans believe the Trump ally is considering directing at least some of the money toward key congressional battleground races, according to POLITICO.
“Any spending by Musk — the richest person in the world — to boost Republicans ahead of November would add to the GOP’s already substantial cash advantage over Democrats,” the report said. “President Donald Trump’s MAGA Inc. super PAC is sitting on more than $400 million, which its leaders have said will be deployed this fall.”
Musk spent roughly $290 million supporting Trump and other Republicans during the 2024 election, primarily through America PAC, making the world’s richest man also the cycle’s largest individual donor to political committees.
Trump and Musk, the former DOGE head, have since reconciled following their very public falling out over the president’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act. As part of the reconciliation, Musk reportedly promised Trump at least $100 million to help Republicans keep control of Congress in November.
