Inside Chuck Schumer's strategy for pushing centrist Democrats to end the filibuster: report

Although Democrats have had a majority in the U.S. Senate since January, it is a narrow one — and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has made it abundantly clear that he isn't shy about using the filibuster to thwart President Joe Biden's legislative agenda. Journalist Hugo Lowell, reporting in the Guardian this week, discusses Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer's "strategy" for showing that McConnell and other Republicans "have all but turned the filibuster into a weapon to wage bad-faith politics."

In order to make that point, Lowell reports, Schumer "is embarking on a strategy to force votes on some of Biden's most high-profile measures."

A major newspaper just called for the criminal prosecution of Donald Trump

A major newspaper's editorial board called for the prosecution of former president Donald Trump.

The editorial board for the Boston Globe made the case this week for holding Trump criminally accountable for his obstruction of justice, efforts to overturn his election loss in Georgia and inciting an insurrection Jan. 6 aimed at stopping the certification of Joe Biden's electoral win, arguing that prosecution was the only way to ensure future presidents conducted themselves honorably and lawfully.

Biden DOJ promises to ‘vigorously’ defend religious schools ‘right’ to discriminate

40 LGBTQ students are suing the U.S. Dept. of Education for allowing the faith-based colleges they attend to discriminate against them while receiving taxpayer funds and federal support. The Dept. of Justice, which generally defends the federal government and the laws of the United States, has promised it will "vigorously" defend the several dozen schools against the lawsuit.

If this were the Trump Justice Dept., many Americans would not be surprised. And while there is a wall between the White House and the DOJ, President Joe Biden has said passing the LGBTQ Equality Act is among his top priorities. (Majority Leader Schumer has indicated he will bring it to the floor for a vote this month.)

MSNBC's Mika throws Mitch McConnell's words back in his face: 'He calls this an insurrection'

MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski threw Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell's words back in his face after he refused to call the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol an "insurrection."

The Kentucky Republican would not directly address the topic on Tuesday, saying he had already said enough, so the "Morning Joe" co-host reminded viewers exactly what McConnell said about the deadly assault on the Capitol by Donald Trump's supporters as Congress certified Joe Biden's election win.
