Philly GOP organizers fear Trump nomination will be a regional 'bloodbath' for Republicans

Pennsylvania is going to be one of the most closely watched swing states in the 2024 election. President Joe Biden's reelection campaign views Pennsylvania as a must-win state, and polls have indicated that former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley would be the most difficult for Biden to defeat in the Keystone State if she is the nominee.

GOP presidential frontrunner Donald Trump, however, is way of ahead of Haley in polls — a fact that worries some of the Philadelphia-area Republican leaders who gathered for a debate watch party on Wednesday night, December 6, including Philadelphia Republican Party Chair Vince Fenerty.

Kevin McCarthy's departure leaves GOP with a massive problem: report

Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) lost the speakership earlier this year when eight Republicans joined with all House Democrats to vacate his chair, and this week he announced he would be leaving Congress entirely at the end of the year.

According to a new report from Politico about McCarthy's home district, his supporters aren't shocked about the sudden resignation, leaving the GOP with an even smaller margin than McCarthy managed through most of 2023.

Threats against GOP lawmakers skyrocketed during Trump's presidency: analysis

Threats to elected officials and other government workers have skyrocketed since Donald Trump entered politics, and the Republican 2024 frontrunner's wide-ranging legal problems have sparked new threats.

CNN reviewed more than 540 cases involving individuals charged with making threats against public officials or institutions between January 2013 and November 2023, which researchers at the University of Nebraska found resulted in a nearly 80-percent conviction rate, but many experts believe those cases aren't prosecuted often enough due to First Amendment concerns and a lack of resources at the Department of Justice.

James Comer is 'getting played' as he chases after Hunter Biden: legal expert

On Thursday morning, CNN legal analyst Elie Honig laughed at House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R) for getting "played" by Hunter Biden and his lawyer as the Kentucky Republican tries to force him to testify out of view of the public.

Speaking with host John Berman, Honig was asked about Comer threatening the son of President Joe Biden with contempt of Congress if he refuses to appear for a closed-door deposition, with the younger Biden stating he is more than willing to appear as long as it is done in full view of America.

As Honig sees it, Comer has" painted himself into a corner" by demanding Hunter Biden appear only to have the president's son put him in an awkward position.

"So James Comer, the House Oversight Committee Chair has really gotten played here," Honig told the host. "He's played himself into a corner."

"Let me explain how," he continued. "James Comer serves the subpoena on Hunter Biden saying we demand your testimony but behind closed doors, confidentially, not in front of the public. Hunter Biden and his team, I think smartly, respond he's happy to testify but in public for everyone to see on camera. And Representative Comer then responds and says 'No, I don't want you testifying publicly. I only want you confidentially.' Who has something to hide here?"

"Now Comer is saying, 'If you don't testify privately, I might hold you in contempt,'" he added. "Representative Comer and the House of Representatives do have the power to hold Hunter Biden in contempt — it will take a majority of the full House. If that happens it goes to the DOJ, which will decide whether or not to prosecute the case for contempt and we've seen Steve Bannon and Peter Navarro prosecuted. There's zero percent chance the DOJ will prosecute when the person 100 percent will testify publicly. It's symbolic, that's all."

'Public humiliation' is pushing Trump into 'a delusional state of mind': psychiatrist

Former President Donald Trump is being driven further and further into insanity by resentment over "public humiliation," psychiatrist Dr. Mark Goulston told Salon's Chauncey DeVega in an interview compilation released on Thursday.

This comes as the former president raises alarm from experts over his increasingly authoritarian-sounding schemes for the U.S., including reshaping the entire federal government in his image and using the DOJ to attack political enemies — to the point he was not even able to deny planning a dictatorship when asked by Fox News' Sean Hannity.

GOP senator demands DOJ investigate reporter who wrote about potential Trump dictatorship

Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) is demanding the Justice Department open a criminal investigation into Robert Kagan, the Washington Post columnist who wrote an op-ed warning of a potential Donald Trump dictatorship.

According to Fox News, Vance is accusing Kagan of inciting "open rebellion" against the United States, for suggesting in his article, "A Trump dictatorship is increasingly inevitable. We should stop pretending," that Democratic-controlled states might resist federal power under a second Trump term should he move to enact his controversial plans to reshape the federal government to do his bidding.

Texas Republican won't contest charges he fraudulently removed opponent's yard signs

Frederick Frazier, a Trump-endorsed Republican state lawmaker in Texas who also serves as a Dallas Police officer, will not contest charges that he illegally impersonated a public official to have his opponent's yard signs removed, reported the Fort Worth Star-Telegram on Wednesday.

Frazier, who will also plead guilty to misdemeanor criminal mischief and represents the city of McKinney, was charged over a 2022 incident in which he allegedly impersonated a town official and told a Walmart store manager to remove campaign signs for his opponent, Paul Chabot, because they were allegedly not in compliance. Chabot filed a complaint with Texas Rangers, who investigated the incident.

Boebert plan to saddle taxpayers with bill for big oil cleanup advanced by GOP

Fossil fuel industry-funded Republicans on the U.S. House Natural Resources Committee voted Wednesday to advance Rep. Lauren Boebert's bill that would saddle taxpayers with the massive cost of cleaning up oil and gas wells on federal lands.

"Corporations awarded a lease to drill on federal land must post a bond. If the leasing corporation abandons an exploration site, goes bankrupt, or fails to plug a well securely, the posted bond covers the cost of doing so," Public Citizen explained this week in a statement opposing the proposal.
