Doctor under investigation by Indiana's Republican attorney general after providing abortion for child rape victim

Authorities in Indiana said they are investigating a gynecologist who performed an abortion on a 10-year-old girl who had been raped -- a flashpoint case in the wake of the US Supreme Court's decision to overturn the federal right to end a pregnancy.

Caitlin Bernard said earlier this month that she had treated the girl in Indianapolis after being contacted by a colleague in neighboring Ohio.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) is among the many conservatives who denied the reports that a 10-year-old was raped and was forced to seek an abortion in another state.

Jordan tweeted about the story calling it: "Another lie. Anyone surprised?" It quoted a story about Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost's office, which also said that they found no evidence to support the rape charge.

Donald Trump's advisers are urging him to announce a 2024 presidential campaign before Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) testifies before a grand jury in Georgia.

The special grand jury empaneled in Fulton County issued a subpoena to the South Carolina Republican to testify about Trump's efforts to overturn his election loss in the state, and the former president's advisers seem to think he should announce another White House bid to stay ahead of that investigation, reported New York Magazine.

Biden says he would go to war with Iran as 'last resort'

U.S. President Joe Biden said in an interview aired Wednesday that he would be willing to go to war with Iran to prevent the country from obtaining a nuclear weapon, a position that drew condemnation from advocacy groups and foreign policy analysts who questioned the moral, strategic, and legal bases for such a stance.

"It makes absolutely zero sense that he won't delist the IRGC to prevent an Iranian nuke but would launch a war to prevent an Iranian nuke."

'He’s gonna get pulverized': Mark Meadows facing major legal peril

After Donald Trump lost the 2020 presidential election to now-President Joe Biden, one of the most vocal supporters of the Big Lie in Trump’s cabinet was then-White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows — who joined Trump in falsely claiming that the 2020 election had been stolen from him and in trying to get the election results overturned. Meadows even discussed his hopes of keeping Trump in the White House with the wife of a U.S. Supreme Court justice: GOP activist and “Stop the Steal” conspiracy theorist Ginni Thomas, who is married to Justice Clarence Thomas.

Journalists Asawin Suebsaeng and Adam Rawnsley examine Meadows’ possible legal exposure in an article published by Rolling Stone on July 13, reporting that “Trump’s inner circle increasingly views Meadows as a likely fall guy for the former president’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election.”

Trump voters report worse mental health than Biden voters — especially those who think the election was stolen: report

On Thursday, Newsweek reported that a new study finds significant differences in reported mental health among voters who backed former President Donald Trump in 2020, and voters who backed President Joe Biden.

"Overall, a majority (87 percent) of the 1,750 American adults taking part in the study published in Political Research Quarterly declared that their general health was 'about the same,' with 71 percent saying their mental health has also not gotten significantly better or worse since the 2020 presidential election," reported Ewan Palmer. "However, when broken down between those who voted for the former and the current president, those who supported the Republican were less likely to report they now have better mental health, but not general health, than their counterparts who voted for the current president."

'Disturbed' Jim Jordan draws outrage after he deletes tweet calling story of 10-year-old rape victim 'another lie'

Rep. Jim Jordan is facing deep criticism for his recent attempt to downplay reports of a 10-year-old rape victim having to travel to another state to get an abortion.

The Republican lawmaker's remarks came after President Joe Biden mentioned the case last week and signed an executive order to provide certain protections for access to abortions; a move that quickly drew negative reactions from Republicans. Jordan was one of many to express doubt and apprehension about the rape case.

Sgt. Gonell shames GOP lawmakers who ignore him and defend rioters: 'They consider me the bad guy'

Sgt. Aquilino Gonell revealed that Republican lawmakers have avoided him since he was injured in the Jan. 6 insurrection, and he can only conclude they consider him an enemy.

The Capitol police officer will be forced into early retirement due to long-term injuries, and he told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" that only two GOP lawmakers -- House select committee members Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger -- have spoken to him since the U.S. Capitol riot, although some of the Republicans who voted against Joe Biden's certification have publicly supported the rioters.
