WATCH: Joe Scarborough hilariously impersonates Trump fans obsessing over Kamala Harris

On Monday morning, MSNBC "Morning Joe" host Joe Scarborough pulled off a hilarious impression of fans of Donald Trump obsessively perusing stories critical of Vice President Kamala Harris while ignoring the fact that she and President Joe Biden still outpoll the former president in head to head match-ups.

As co-hosts Mika Brzezinski and Jonathan Lemire looked on laughing, Scarborough went on an extended rant ridiculing followers of Trump saying disparaging reports about Harris proves "I am a superior as a white man in my mother's basement."

Ron DeSantis’ handpicked 'radical far-right' secretary of state will oversee his race

Democrats and election experts have sounded the alarm for months about the growing risk of election subversion as conspiracy theorists backed by former President Donald Trump run for secretary of state in key swing states. But with little fanfare or media attention, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis earlier this year hand-picked a right-wing ally who refuses to acknowledge President Joe Biden's 2020 victory to oversee his re-election race.

Around the country, Republicans pushing Trump's "Big Lie" about the 2020 election are running to win jobs overseeing the next election. Trump loyalist Jim Marchant, who baselessly claims that elections have been illegitimate for more than a decade, recently won the Republican nomination for secretary of state in Nevada. The Michigan Republican Party is backing Kristina Karamo, who has pushed ludicrous conspiracy theories about the 2020 race being stolen. Trump has also endorsed Mark Finchem as Arizona's next secretary of state after he attended the Jan. 6 Capitol rally and introduced a bill to decertify 2020 election results.

How Clarence Thomas went from a 'fringe figure with extremist views' to the Court’s 'center of gravity': report

For many years, Justice Clarence Thomas and the late Antonin Scalia were considered the fringe of the U.S. Supreme Court — far-right social conservatives who frequently butted heads with the late liberal Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg as well as right-wing libertarian Justice Anthony Kennedy, now retired. But with the High Court handing down one extreme decision after another in 2022, from overturning Roe v. Wade to limiting the Environment Protection Agency’s ability to regulate power plants, it’s obvious that the Court’s Thomas wing is now dominant.

Journalist David Smith, in an article published by The Guardian on July 10, emphasizes that Thomas, now 74, has become increasingly influential on the Court. According to Smith, the days when Thomas was regarded the Court’s “fringe figure with extremist views” are over — and the Court’s “center of gravity” has “moved his way.”

Georgia grand jury probe of 2020 election conduct zeroes in on Trump’s inner circle

A Fulton County special grand jury is in full swing in its investigation into attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election in favor of Donald Trump with the latest string of subpoenas targeting Republican U.S Sen. Lindsey Graham and former Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani and other Trump advisors.
The South Carolina senator and seven lawyers with ties to Trump and his campaign were subpoenaed last week for the Fulton investigation into whether Trump and his allies illegally interfered in the election that Democrat Joe Biden won by fewer than 12,000 votes.
Even though the latest round of subpoenas say the witnesses should be ready to appear in Fulton as early as Tuesday, don’t expect them to show up at the Fulton County Courthouse that day.

Graham, for one, has vowed to fight his summons, arguing that his calls were made in his capacity as a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Attorneys John Eastman, Kenneth Chesebro, Jacki Pick Deason, and Jenna Ellis have also been summoned to talk about the legal strategies used while trying to block Biden’s certification. The court filings say it appears the Trump campaign relied on unfounded claims of massive voting fraud and legal landmines.

'Like interviewing the Joker': Eric Swalwell predicts 'zero' value from Steve Bannon’s testimony

United States Representative Eric Swalwell said on Sunday's edition of MSNBC's American Voices with Alicia Menendez that the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol should prepare to treat former President Donald Trump's Oval Office adviser Steve Bannon as a loose cannon and a hostile witness.

Host Alicia Menendez asked Swalwell what he believes Bannon may have of value to offer to the bipartisan panel, should it accept his offer to testify while a criminal contempt of Congress charge looms over Bannon's head. That proposal was accompanied by a letter from Trump, which painted Bannon as a victim of political malpractice.

Noted mental health expert: Democrats need to embrace rage

In a series of recent decisions that have taken away women's reproductive rights and freedoms, given guns more protection than human lives, neutered the federal government's power to protect the environment in a moment of global climate disaster and further dissolved the separation of church and state, the radical right-wing justices on the Supreme Court are attempting to force American society back to the Gilded Age if not before.

As a practical matter, the new-old America that the Supreme Court is serving as a wicked midwife for will be a society where women, Black and brown people, gays and lesbians, and other marginalized groups will have their basic civil and human rights greatly reduced, if not stripped away altogether.

Revealed: Right-wing think tank Family Research Council is now a church in eyes of the IRS

The Family Research Council’s multimillion-dollar headquarters sit on G Street in Washington, D.C., just steps from the U.S. Capitol and the White House, a spot ideally situated for its work as a right-wing policy think tank and political pressure group.

From its perch at the heart of the nation’s capital, the FRC has pushed for legislation banning gender-affirming surgery; filed amicus briefs supporting the overturning of Roe v. Wade; and advocated for religious exemptions to civil rights laws. Its longtime head, a former state lawmaker and ordained minister named Tony Perkins, claims credit for pushing the Republican platform rightward over the past two decades.

What is the FRC? Its website sums up the answer to this question in 63 words: “A nonprofit research and educational organization dedicated to articulating and advancing a family-centered philosophy of public life. In addition to providing policy research and analysis for the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of the federal government, FRC seeks to inform the news media, the academic community, business leaders, and the general public about family issues that affect the nation from a biblical worldview.”

Links between Trump associates, militants in focus at Jan 6 hearings this week

By Richard Cowan and Katanga Johnson

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -Congressional investigators into the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol expect this week to draw connections between militant groups that took part and government officials, possibly including then-President Donald Trump, a member of the committee conducting the investigation said on Sunday.

Trump is only green-lighting Steve Bannon because the hearings are going so badly for him: David Jolly

Former Republican Rep. David Jolly isn't as confused as others are about why Donald Trump suddenly announced that Steve Bannon is no longer blocked by executive privilege. Bannon was never blocked by such privilege because he wasn't even working for the White House at the time. At the same time, the former president can't assert privilege, only the current one can, and President Joe Biden waived it for anything dealing with Jan. 6 and the planning of the 2020 election overthrow attempt.

Still, Bannon is now trying to say he'll cooperate after refusing to do so for about a year and being held in contempt of Congress. It's essentially a "hail Mary," explained former FBI deputy Andrew McCabe.

Biden aims to 'strengthen a strategic partnership' with Saudi Arabia

US President Joe Biden, shown here leaving a church in Delaware on July 9, 2022, said he is seeking to strengthen the US

Washington (AFP) - US President Joe Biden said Saturday he aims to "strengthen a strategic partnership" with Saudi Arabia during a controversial visit there next week, but added that he will hold true to "fundamental American values."

"I know that there are many who disagree with my decision to travel to Saudi Arabia. My views on human rights are clear and long-standing, and fundamental freedoms are always on the agenda when I travel abroad, as they will be during this trip," Biden wrote in a Washington Post opinion piece published Saturday.
