'That was the last straw': Two conservative Fox News 'mainstays' quit over Tucker Carlson’s Jan. 6 lies

At Fox News, far-right opinion host Tucker Carlson has not only been a supporter of Hungarian strongman Viktor Orbán and promoted the racist, anti-Semitic Great Replacement theory — he has also been an apologist for the insurrectionists who violently assaulted the U.S. Capitol Building on January 6 in the hope of stopping Congress from certifying now-President Joe Biden's Electoral College victory over then-President Donald Trump. And Carlson's coverage of January 6 is so beyond the pale that two conservative journalists, according to National Public Radio, have left Fox News because of it.

Those conservatives, NPR's David Folkenflik reports, are Jonah Goldberg and Stephen Hayes. Goldberg is known his years as a National Review editor. And Hayes was with the now-defunct Weekly Standard, whose Bill Kristol started The Bulwark with fellow Never Trump conservative Charlie Sykes following the Standard's demise.

Biden to keep Powell as Fed chief as inflation surges

President Joe Biden on Monday tapped Jerome Powell to serve a second term as chair of the US Federal Reserve, allowing him to keep leading the response to the economic damage caused by Covid-19 while dealing with a wave of record inflation.

The nomination, expected to win confirmation by the Senate, ends weeks of speculation over whether Biden, a Democrat, would reappoint the Republican chair, or heed calls from the left wing of his party to replace him with a candidate like Fed Governor Lael Brainard.

Former Trump official says conservatives are using Kyle Rittenhouse as a 'pawn'

CNN's Brianna Keilar spoke to former Trump White House communications director Alyssa Farah this Monday, who slammed conservatives for making Kyle Rittenhouse into a hero after his acquittal on charges related to the shooting deaths of two people and the wounding of another during unrest in Kenosha, Wisconsin, last year.

"I'm a little afraid of my friends on the right — and I am a Republican — lionizing him and sort of making him this martyr for the cause," Farah said.

Three hours after Rittenhouse verdict, conservative pages ruled Facebook's engagement algorithms by a factor of 9 to 1

Last Friday, Cristiano Ronaldo's Facebook page had the most interactions in the world. "Let's chase what we are trying to achieve this season!" he exclaimed.

The Portuguese soccer star's post, however, was an island in a partisan sea. The next six most engaged posts came from outspoken American conservatives cheering the acquittal of Kyle Rittenhouse for the killings of two men at a Wisconsin protest. Looking at shared links, conservatives' Facebook dominance was even more stark — 18 of the top 20 most engaged page links in the world originated from conservative Facebook pages.

According to a report from the New York Times, Democratic Senators Kyrsten Sinema (AZ) and West Virginia's Joe Manchin's delaying tactics that are keeping the Senate from agreeing on bills proposed by the Joe Biden administration is having the added benefit of allowing the two lawmakers to reap rewards from traditional Republican donors.
