Court records reveal the documents that Donald Trump and his White House officials most want to keep hidden from the House select committee.

The twice-impeached one-term president has claimed executive privilege over 39 pages from the 136 pages of documents that were set to be released Friday by the National Archives and Records Administration, and those documents include handwritten notes about Jan. 6, appointments for White House visitors, and switchboard logs that show calls between Trump and former vice president Mike Pence, reported USA Today.

Biden taps infrastructure czar to oversee billions in funding

US President Joe Biden on Sunday appointed prominent former mayor Mitch Landrieu to coordinate implementation of the country's massive new infrastructure law and oversee the disbursement of its $1.2 trillion in funds.

In his role as senior advisor, the former New Orleans mayor "will oversee the most significant and comprehensive investments in American infrastructure in generations," the White House said in a statement.

According to Jonathan Karl's new book "Betrayal: The Final Act of the Trump Show," Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) conspired behind Donald Trump's back to make sure he did not attend the inauguration of Joe Biden after Trump's loss in the 2020 presidential election.

According to excerpts from the book reported on by Politico's Meredith McGraw, McConnell expressed fears that the outgoing president might appear at the event and "felt he could not give Trump another opportunity to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power," Karl wrote.

US aiming to defuse tensions in Biden-Xi summit

US President Joe Biden and China's Xi Jinping will speak Monday at a virtual summit aimed at defusing some of the tensions that have built up over Taiwan and other flashpoint issues, but with both sides signaling little appetite for compromise.

The two leaders have already spoken on the phone twice since Biden's inauguration in January but, with Xi refusing to travel abroad because of the pandemic, an online video meeting remains the best available avenue for direct talks.
