Lansing, Mich. — Former President Donald Trump declared Monday that Michigan, where Republicans control the House and Senate, needs a new "Legislature" and endorsed a primary challenger to one of the state's most conservative lawmakers. In statements issued Monday afternoon, Trump called Michigan lawmakers "cowards" and continued to make unsubstantiated claims that there was widespread fraud in the battleground state's 2020 election. He lost the Michigan race to Democrat Joe Biden by 154,000 votes or 3 percentage points. Trump endorsed former U.S. House candidate Mike Detmer of Howell in a lik...

Trump melts down over report Republicans wanted him 'disinvited' from Biden's inauguration

On Monday, former president Donald Trump issued an angry statement through his spokesperson -- because he is banned from Twitter -- pushing back at a report from ABC's Jonathan Karl that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) plotted with fellow Republicans to "disinvite" him from Joe Biden's inauguration ceremonies over fears he might make a scene.

According to Karl, "McConnell's letter and his attempt to stop Trump from coming to the inauguration never came to fruition," adding, "a top adviser to the Kentucky Republican informed Trump's chief of staff Mark Meadows that McConnell wanted to disinvite Trump and McCarthy separately told the White House of McConnell's plan, Trump preemptively put out a tweet — his very last on the platform — announcing his decision to not attend."

Beto O’Rourke says he’s running for Texas governor

Beto O'Rourke is running for governor, challenging Republican Greg Abbott in a clash of two of Texas' biggest politicians.

“I'm running to serve the people of Texas, and I want to make sure that we have a governor that serves everyone, helps to bring this state together to do the really big things before us and get past the small, divisive politics and policies of Greg Abbott," O'Rourke said in an interview with The Texas Tribune. “It is time for change."

The former El Paso congressman, 2018 U.S. Senate nominee and 2020 presidential contender said he was running for governor to improve public schools, health care and jobs in Texas. But O'Rourke also took sharp aim at Abbott's record, citing new laws he backed this year that ban most abortions in Texas, tighten voting rules and allow permitless carry of handguns. He also criticized Abbott over the February power grid failure that left most of the state without electricity in subfreezing temperatures and his response to the coronavirus pandemic that has recently been focused on fighting vaccine and mask mandates.
