Trump administration official Richard Grenell criticized basketball legend Magic Johnson Sunday night for endorsing LA Mayor Karen Bass in her reelection bid against Democratic and Republican challengers.

Johnson posted a video endorsement stating he had known Bass for 30 years and praised her accomplishments in office.

Bass shared the video with a caption expressing gratitude for Johnson's support, highlighting his investments and community involvement in Los Angeles. Grenell responded by calling the endorsement "beyond pathetic" and questioned Johnson's motivations.

"Los Angeles is in terrible shape and you want Karen ass to be re-elected because she's your friend?!" Grenell wrote, tagging Johnson in the post and calling it "a selfish move."

The exchange reflects broader political tensions surrounding Bass's mayoral race and the Trump administration's willingness to engage in public disputes with prominent figures.
