Katie Zacharia is already on her way out as White House press secretary after less than a week on the job.
The conservative media commentator took over Monday for Karoline Leavitt, who left in August to spend more time with her husband and young children, and Zacharia got off to a rough start the following day in her inaugural press conference.
Zacharia read haltingly from a written statement and barely looked up from the pages before taking just three questions from reporters and ending the event after 14 minutes.
She stumbled through a pair of appearances Thursday night and Friday morning on Fox News before President Donald Trump announced the end of her tenure while talking with reporters at the White House.
"Katie has been treated very badly by the media, very very badly – very unfair," Trump said. "I just asked her, is this for you? And she's a nice person. I'm going to let her make that decision. Sean Hannity was a little bit tough. Katie is off to a start that, the news has been so nasty to her. I told her, 'Honestly, if I were you, I would reconsider.' Maybe it's not for her."
A senior White House official confirmed to Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy that Zacharia was “transitioning out” of the press secretary position, according to that network's Aishah Hasnie.
The reactions came as swift as her tenure was brief.
"Records are made to be broken. But I take no pleasure in other people's pain," sighed Anthony Scaramucci, who famously served as Trump's press secretary for just 11 days.
"Mooch, we hardly knew ye," chuckled MS NOW's Joe Scarborough.
"5 days lol," laughed Gizmodo's Matt Novak.
"Katie you in trouble girl!" warned GOP strategist Mike Madrid.
"The Scaramucci' is dead -- long live 'the Zacharia'!" announced Media Matters' Matthew Gertz.
"Trump hired her, defended her, and suggested she quit. All while blaming the media," observed influencer Alex Cole.
"She might not even make it a full Scaramucci. Damn," piped up popular X user JoJo from Jerz. "Oh yeah, she’s toast. She’s too nice for him. That’s actually the problem. She doesn’t hate the press. That’s what he wants."
"This is the most gracious Trump has been toward any woman since Ghislaine Maxwell," opined sociologist Brooke Harrington. "I wonder what Katie did to earn the VIP treatment."
"Trump, the guy famous for saying You're Fired, firing someone in the most annoying passive-aggressive p---- way possible lol," sneered podcaster Dan O'Sullivan.
"The question now that Zacharia is gone is -- did Trump order Hannity to deliver the Code Red?" wondered The Independent's Justin Baragona.
"Lmao. Great management and hiring practices sir!" guffawed the popular Bluesky account Internet Hippo. "Barely awake old man drooling and mumbling 'Right out of central casting.' Is that not good HR process?"
"Good case study here," noted The Onion's Ben Collins. "You can be as evil as you want, you can kill as many people as is possible, you can shove churro ladies into vans then off to black sites in countries they've never even heard of, but if you can't do the performance of fascism — that's when you're in real trouble."
