The wife of Donald Trump's second son, Eric, complained about the scrutiny the family continually faces in an attempt to defuse backlash over a controversial AI video featuring champagne and a celebration inside the Trump insider circle.
Lara Trump delivered a "mind-boggling defense" of a "champagne-spraying White House party video" posted by Trump insider Dan Scavino that drew criticism even from MAGA figures, according to a report from the Daily Beast.
She brushed off concerns about Americans squeezed by rising prices by insisting the rules "have never really applied to this president," making the argument when pressed during an interview with Harry Cole, host of "Harry Cole Saves the West" on Tuesday.
Cole described the video to viewers as "spraying champagne around the White House, running around, jumping in swimming pools with President Xi."
He then noted to his guest, "The price of coffee is up 18 percent in two years, the price of ground beef's up 17 percent," before asking her if there was "a bit of a disconnect" between the White House and US citizens..
According to the Trump family member, "This is a fun thing. This is kind of tongue in cheek," adding anyone who was offended, "... probably needs to go on and have a little bit of fun because I think they're a little bit stiff."
Cole persisted by pointing the president is "demolishing the East Wing," "building the ballroom" and "building the helipad," while Americans are struggling.
"Of course he gets it," Lara Trump responded, insisting Trump takes "the job very seriously."
She then complained, "Everyone knows, it has not been, you know, a cakewalk for any of us."
According to the Beast report, criticism of the video also came from the right, noting conservative pundit Meghan McCain, pointed out: "One of my friends couldn't afford air conditioner this summer."
