More than 900,000 people joined demonstrations across Germany at the weekend against far-right extremism and the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, according to police estimates compiled by the Interior Ministry. Huge crowds gathered in numerous cities on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in response to revelations in news reports that far-right politicians, including members of the AfD, had joined a meeting in November with far-right extremists to discuss making immigrants leave the country.
