'Prayer' prompts Republican not to run for House Speaker

WASHINGTON — U.S. Reps. Jodey Arrington and Roger Williams announced Sunday they will not run for speaker of the U.S. House, leaving only one Texan in the mix to lead Congress’ lower chamber.

“After careful consideration and much prayer, I have decided not to run for Speaker at this time. There are several capable candidates who have stepped forward to run, and I plan to support whomever our Conference elects on Tuesday,” Arrington, R-Lubbock, said in a statement.

MSNBC's Katie Phang reported Sunday that Donald Trump's lawyer Alina Habba will be the one to do the questioning of Michael Cohen in court on Tuesday. Habba was also the lawyer on the Trump team who interviewed Cohen for his deposition.

Cohen's testimony last week was delayed by an injury, and while Trump tried to mock him for not having the "guts" to face him, Cohen made it clear the testimony was merely delayed, not canceled.

Republican holdouts left Jim Jordan meeting unmoved — and told him to drop out

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) left a meeting with 22 Republicans who are refusing to vote for him to speaker, but refused to say a word. According to reporters, he seemed very upset and didn't take any photos.

Upon leaving the meeting, Carlos A. Giménez (R-FL) told reporters "no minds were changed and that Jordan was encouraged in the meeting to drop out," said Politico's Jordain Carney.

Former Ethics Czar and impeachment lawyer Norm Eisen pointed out that a single ruling in court Thursday could determine whether or not Ken Chesebro joins Sidney Powell in making a deal on the racketeering cases.

Looking at a court filing, Eisen explained that any plea could "depend on how the judge rules on the district attorney's motion to bar his key defense." The defense from Chesebro is that it was perfectly legal to have fake electors that could be used during the election certification process.
