Let's keep Secretary Leavitt spinning

So, I'm sure you all know by now that after the public rose up and protested the Bush administration's attempts to redefine preventing pregnancy as terminating pregnancy, the Bush administration responded by having the HHS issue a "fuck you" to the public---now the HHS regulations that are disputed are so broad as to protect health care workers who want to refuse to do their jobs for all sorts of reasons. Since the Bushies don't seem to care what you or anyone else that belongs in the "reasonable person" category thinks, it might seem a little beside the point to click this link and send this email.

Anti-choice loonies try to put a wrench in the DNCC

I'm feeling very positive about Obama's chances of winning this week. Why? Because I don't think I've ever seen these levels of right wing desperation. Completely unable to make a case for McCain or against Obama with the public, the wingers are flailing around trying to grab onto any wedge issue they can. Because the one thing the right wing noise machine has turned into an art is exploiting people's resentments and turning them against each other. The PUMA thing is a classic example, and sadly, some morons are falling for it.

John McCain Is White

imageBecause Barack Obama is black, it is his solemn duty to weigh in on everything other black people do, especially as it relates to music. You see, Negroes have been making music with naughty lyrics for a while, and since Negroes support Barack Obama, Barack Obama therefore supports everything Negroes do. Kind of like how he helped William Ayers set bombs when he was eight years old - the overarching sense of responsibility that blackness brings actually transcends race. And time. Obama has yet to weigh in on the failure in sanitation that helped cause the Black Plague several hundred years ago, but a statement should be forthcoming.

Right wingers dismantling democracy with a wrecking ball

I've got an interview with Thomas Frank later this week that I'll probably be publishing later, but I thought I'd review his new book The Wrecking Crew: How Conservatives Rule, especially in the light of his depressing conclusion, which is that there's almost no way that Obama or any living Democrat would have the guts to dismantle the conservative movement the way conservatives dismantled the liberal state.

Jill Stanek's greatest hits

How much do I love Media Matters? They've been intensely following the "Obama supports infanticide" lie that's being promoted strongly by Sean Hannity, which is mostly promoted by certifiable wingnut and racist Jerome Corsi and by anti-choice/anti-woman/anti-sex waste of space Jill Stanek. And they've rolled up their sleeves and put together a greatest hits package of her favorite writing. Is Stanek a sweet lady who just wants to help babies? Or, as I suggest, a person whose mind is bent by misogyny? The latter, my friends, the latter.

Occam's abortion razor

I think there's a simple reason that no one's attempted an abortion blog before, and it's not so much that it's so shameful to get an abortion. It's because most abortions are about getting from point A (shitshitshitshitshitshitshit) to point B (thank god I'm not pregnant anymore) as quickly as possible. Blogs only work for processes that are dragged out for months, as opposed to days and weeks, at a time.

Interesting

Former Republican speechwriter and CNN talking head Amy Holmes is now an "independent conservative", despite having been a "Republican consultant" at every point that I can remember up to today.
