Florida massage parlor founder's involvement with GOP exploded in support with election of Trump: journalist
Appearing on MSNBC's "AM Joy," one of the journalists who uncovered evidence that the founder of a Florida massage parlor accused of human trafficking and prostitution said the woman became a very enthusiastic supporter of the Republican Party with the 2016 election of Donald Trump.
Speaking with host Joy Reid, Miami Herald reporter Nicholas Nehamas described how he and his colleagues broke the story by looking into the background Li “Cindy” Yang who has now been accused of selling Chinese clients access to Trump.
Asked by host Joy Reid about Yang's political leanings, Nehamas said she jumped in with both feet after Trump was elected.
"Well, she's a member of a political action committee for Asian-American Republicans," the journalist explained. "She seems to have access to the president's private clubs including Mar-a-Lago and Trump International West Palm Beach, although she said she's not a member."
He added, "She told us she has no relationship with the president, that she's a volunteer and she just attends some events," to which Reid pressed, "Has she been a politically active Republican for a long time?"
"She has not," Nehamas replied. "She began donating to [ex-Florida Gov.] Jeb Bush at the end of 2015 when he was running for the president, then she transitioned to a supporter of President Trump."
"That seemed to awaken a huge political impulse in her since 2016," he continued. "Her Facebook presence, her social media presence has been almost exclusively devoted to Republican politics as well as her consulting business which started a little bit later.'
