Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the California Democrat who is in her sixth term as U.S. senator, "has passed away" at age 90, Punchbowl News and ABC 7 San Francisco report.

"BREAKING: Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) has passed away," Punchbowl's Andrew Desiderio wrote on X Friday.

ABC7 Insider Phil Matier also confirmed the news.

POLL: Should Trump be allowed to hold office again?

"Dianne Feinstein, right from the start, was an icon for women in politics," former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told ABC.

Feinstein's health had been called into question several times this year. In August, the senator was briefly hospitalized after a fall.

Yesterday, the San Francisco Chronicle reported, "According to court filings, the California Democrat’s ongoing health issues have necessitated more than $160,000 in medical expenses, much likely due to the high costs of home health care and any assistance with daily living after Feinstein’s March hospitalization from shingles."

This is a breaking news and developing story.
