GOP 'sociopaths' live among us — and it's 'contagious': neuroscientist

Sociopaths, a term often used to describe those living with antisocial personality disorder, who operate within their daily lives without a “conscience,” can be characterized as acting without feelings of guilt, remorse, or shame coupled with a tendency to reject the concept of responsibility.

Antisocial people will intentionally make others angry or upset and use harsh and cruel indifference as they manipulate or attack others.

Clinically speaking, there is no defined difference between a sociopath and a psychopath although some have drawn this line at acting with low moral conscience (sociopath) and no moral conscience (psychopath) or having no regard for someone else’s rights or feelings (sociopath) and taking pleasure in robbing another of their rights, freedom, or well-being (psychopath)....

Trump voters should be held accountable for their choice — here's why

For now, I’m not getting involved in the debate over what Kamala Harris did wrong. For one thing, whatever conclusions are drawn now will almost certainly be forgotten by the time of the next election. For another, the debate takes vital attention away from the choice of the majority of American voters, which is to say, their terrible choice.

Why did they break for Donald Trump? Lots of worthy people are going to spend lots of time exploring that question. I won’t, though. What I know is that Trump campaigned on easily proven lies. What I also know is his supporters chose to believe them. What I care about now are the consequences of that choice, and those consequences are going to be bad for all of us, including everyone who voted for him.

Yesterday, the president-elect said among the first things he’s going to do is eliminate the US Department of Education. That agency not only sends federal money to local school districts, it makes sure children are treated equally. This is usually understood in terms of race, but special-education is protected too, and it needs it. There was a time in American history when special needs kids were told to sink or swim....

'Death knell': Ex-prosecutor highlights 'absolute disqualifier' for Trump's latest nominee

Donald Trump's new attorney general nominee has an absolute disqualifier under her belt, according to a former prosecutor.

Former federal prosecutor Joyce Vance Friday noted the decision of Matt Gaetz, Trump's first pick for A.G., to withdraw his name from consideration.

"Gaetz, completely unqualified and credibly accused of the same kind of conduct the Justice Department prosecutes, was rejected by members of his own party," Vance wrote. "Even they couldn’t stomach Gaetz in the role of the Attorney General."...

'Men can’t watch women change clothes': Nancy Mace vows more anti-trans legislation

'Men can’t watch women change clothes': Nancy Mace vows more anti-trans legislation

WASHINGTON — Praising House Speaker Mike Johnson’s new policy barring trans women from Capitol restrooms, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) on Wednesday said her new concern is making sure the ban is “cemented” and reiterated her intention to continue filing anti-trans legislation.

“I am proud to be a woman and today women won,” Mace said Wednesday. “This is a huge women’s rights issue, and I am eternally grateful to Speaker Johnson for coming to our defense and making the right call, making the right decision and my concern is making it cemented.”

Mace, who this week escalated her public fight with newly-elected Democrat Sarah McBride of Delaware – the first openly transgender American to be elected to Congress – when she introduced a binding resolution calling for banning transgender women from using women’s restrooms in the Capitol. She then took to Fox News on Tuesday to say “a man walking into a locker room” where she was changing was comparable to assault....

Karl Rove sends Trump a warning: 'No president has infinite sway'

Chaos and controversy created by President-elect Donald Trump’s unconventional picks to head high-profile government positions will come with a price, according to prominent Republican strategist Karl Rove.

In a Wall Street Journal op-ed, Rove, a onetime senior advisor and deputy chief of staff to former President George W. Bush, said that price could cost Trump the political capital he needs to push through his second term agenda and win over public support.

And, Rove added, that’s especially true for his “catastrophically bad selection” of former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL)....

Angela Merkel sharply criticizes 'emotional' Trump in new memoir: report

Angela Merkel sharply criticizes 'emotional' Trump in new memoir: report

Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel ripped into Donald Trump in a new memoir previewed by Politico on Wednesday.

The memoir by Merkel, who led the center-right Christian Democratic Union party and was in office through the first half of Trump's presidency, comes as Trump prepares to take office once again, and the European Union grapples with the potential implications of his more pro-Russia and anti-NATO beliefs.

“He judged everything from the perspective of the property entrepreneur he had been before politics. Each property could only be allocated once. If he didn’t get it, someone else did. That was also how he looked at the world,” wrote Merkel. “For him, all countries were in competition with each other, in which the success of one was the failure of the other; he did not believe that the prosperity of all could be increased through co-operation.”...

Ex-aide flags 'convincing' proof that bombshell Epstein report is 'probably accurate'

A key moment has a former Trump White House insider thinking a damning new report on Jeffrey Epstein probably holds up.

Sarah Matthews, a deputy White House press secretary in Trump's first administration, said on Tuesday's episode of "The Bulwark Daily" that first lady Melania Trump's "weird random press conference" earlier this year is the "most convincing piece of evidence" that the House Judiciary Committee Democrats' report is "probably accurate."

Host Tim Miller, a former Republican strategist, opened the show by reading from the report's executive summary, which states that "Donald Trump was an active participant in Jeffrey Epstein's sexual abuse of young women during the mid to late 1990s."...

Republican’s ‘humiliating’ Meet the Press interview so bad Morning Joe won’t even show it

Michigan Republican Mike Rogers appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday was panned on MS NOW Monday morning for being a waste of time because he just sucked up to Donald Trump.

It was so bad that “Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough refused to share any clips from it and said he would have pulled the plug immediately after it began if it had been on his show.

Speaking with host Kristen Welker, Rogers, who is facing Dr. Abdul Al-Sayed for a seat in the Senate representing Michigan, ducked questions about Donald Trump — specifically his tariffs — while also attacking “you guys on the national press,” calling a question about whether he considers himself “MAGA” as “disgusting.”...

DOJ begs judge to hide Dem raid warrant that's not 'fully executed' until after midterms

President Donald Trump's Justice Department asked a judge for a delay that would keep the warrant for the unusual raid on the home of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) secret through the midterm elections.

Lawyers in U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro’s office asked Chief Judge James Boasberg in a motion filed Wednesday to push back the deadlines for answering three requests to unseal the warrant records.

Neither of the two timelines the government proposed would release the records before the election on Nov. 3....
