Stephen Miller says Americans owe their amazing energy prices to Donald Trump. Critics saw it differently.

Miller, the White House deputy chief of staff for policy, appeared Saturday on Fox News’ “My View with Lara Trump.” The segment ran under the banner “Miller touts Trump’s sweeping achievements.”

“The reason we have lower energy prices than anyone else in the developed world is because of President Trump,” Miller said, according to a clip posted by Acyn.

The segment soon turned to the “high-stakes midterms.” The network ran footage of Sens. Chuck Schumer and Elizabeth Warren under the banner “Democrats hampering Trump agenda.”

Miller’s claim came at an awkward moment. Fuel prices have soared since Trump launched his war against Iran, the New York Times reported Friday. Diesel prices are at record highs in farm states during harvest season. And Trump struck a deal with Vladimir Putin to import Russian diesel in an effort to bring prices down before Election Day.

“These people are sociopaths,” progressive outlet MeidasTouch wrote.

Bimal Desai, a pharmacology professor at the University of Virginia, said Miller was taking credit for something that has been true for a long time.

“US has always had significantly lower energy prices than other developed countries because most of these peer nations tax fossil fuels at very high rates,” Desai wrote. “This is yet another talking point tailored for MAGA idiots.”

Political writer Troy Matthews laid out the sequence: “Trump bombs Iran. Diesel prices go up. Trump pays Russia for Diesel. Russia gives money to Iran.”

“This election will be a good test case for the ‘we can win by just pretending that something people see everyday doesn’t exist’ campaign strategy,” wrote Kalshi trader Gaeten Dugas.

Bad Fox Graphics pointed to Miller’s expression.

“Even Stephen Miller appears to be questioning himself,” the account wrote.
