JD Vance swipes at 'too abstract' Vatican in forthcoming book: report

Vice President JD Vance took aim at late Pope Francis and the Vatican in his new book, describing the meeting with the Roman Catholic Church's leader who died roughly 24 hours after the conversation, according to The Washington Post.

Vance described the meeting as "'unsettling' as the officials uttered what he describes as 'trite platitudes' and 'clichés,' adding that he preferred the direct rebukes offered by Pope Francis," The Post reported.

In the new book, "Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith," which is slated to be released on Tuesday, Vance talked about his short conversation with Francis and Vatican diplomats on Easter morning. He wrote about being "unusually nervous" on the drive to the Vatican — and what would later be known as the last day of Francis's life....

Calls mount for Pope to punish JD Vance: 'Excommunicate the heretic!'

Vice President JD Vance was under fire on Thursday after a number of voices called for his excommunication from the Catholic Church.

Vance has described himself as a devout Catholic and has a new book coming out about his faith journey. But critics of the vice president have demanded Pope Leo punish Vance and take a stand after the Church leader called President Donald Trump's threat to wipe out the Iranian civilization "truly unacceptable."

The internet shared their thoughts on what they believe the pope should do. ...

Pope Leo makes bold move to replace Trump-friendly cardinal with pro-migrant leader

Pope Leo XIV has replaced President Donald Trump's ally and conservative Cardinal Timothy Dolan with a pro-migrant leader and fellow Chicagoan.

Ronald Hicks, 52, who is the current bishop of Joliet, Illinois, will replace Dolan as the leader of New York’s Roman Catholic archdiocese, The Guardian reported. Dolan, who is retiring, has selected for the role by Pope Benedict XVI in 2012.

Hicks and Pope Leo grew up a few blocks away from each other in Chicago's south suburbs, according to The New York Times. The move is "one of the most anticipated decisions of Pope Leo’s young papacy, his first major move indicating the direction he wants the church to take in his home country."...

'Rare': Catholic bishops prepare to send Trump a ‘special message’

A group of Catholic bishops is preparing a "special message" for President Donald Trump and is expected to consider it on Wednesday.

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops announced it will take a stand for migrants whom the Trump administration has targeted in an aggressive crackdown that has prevented many from receiving communion, according to The Washington Post.

They launched a campaign called "You Are Not Alone," which aims to provide direct aid to and offer solidarity with migrants, who make up about one-third of the U.S. Church. Another 14% of Catholics are children of immigrants....

Evangelical churches are 'quiet quitting' Trump as flocks sickened by tactics: expert

Large numbers of evangelicals and Catholic churches are "quiet quitting" President Donald Trump and leaving MAGA — hoping to avoid isolating people who are still devotees but are distancing themselves from the president's aggressive immigration policies and remarks, Axios reported on Wednesday.

Some congregation members are stepping away from supporting Trump and pastors are attempting to pander to them, even steering clear of political sermons and messages, according to the report.

"We've gotten more testimonials. I'm starting to now see 'Leaving MAGA' signs popping up on billboards, overpasses, and [at] No Kings protests," Rich Logis, who founded a group called Leaving MAGA, told Axios. ...

Order of nuns slams boss for comparing Charlie Kirk to saint: 'false prophets'

Order of nuns slams boss for comparing Charlie Kirk to saint: 'false prophets'

A group of New York nuns are criticizing Cardinal Timothy Dolan's praise of late MAGA influencer Charlie Kirk and likening him to “a modern-day St. Paul," saying his words "do not reflect the qualities of a saint."

"We grieve every loss of life and unequivocally condemn the killing of Mr. Kirk," Sisters of Charity of New York wrote in a statement.

"What Cardinal Dolan may not have known is that many of Mr. Kirk’s words were marked by racist, homophobic, transphobic, and anti-immigrant rhetoric, by violent pro-gun advocacy, and by the promotion of Christian nationalism. These prejudicial words do not reflect the qualities of a saint. To compare Mr. Kirk to St. Paul risks confusing the true witness of the Gospel and giving undue sanction to words and actions that hurt the very people Jesus calls us to love."...
