MS NOW appalled as GOP turns hearing for ex-Trump lawyer into a 'trip into bizarro world'

President Donald Trump's former attorney Jeffrey Clark testified Tuesday on Capitol Hill, with Republicans giving him a platform to challenge former special counsel Jack Smith's investigation, an MS NOW analyst reported.

Ken Dilanian, MS NOW justice and intelligence correspondent, pointed out how Clark, who played a key role in Trump's attempt to overturn the 2020 election and was pardoned by the president in 2025, was named as an unindicted co-conspirator in Smith's investigation into the fake electors scheme as Republicans were continuing to take on Smith's probe. Democrats argue Clark continues to promote conspiracy theories.

And in a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, Clark tried to make several arguments tied to his past comments. ...

Judge shuts down Trump co-defendant Jeff Clark's attempt to delay Georgia case

Judge shuts down Trump co-defendant Jeff Clark's attempt to delay Georgia case

Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee denied a heavily redacted motion by former President Donald Trump's one-time Justice Department official and criminal co-defendant Jeffrey Clark, requesting a delay in his case, reported Politico's Kyle Cheney on Friday.

Few details are available through the private information that's been withheld. However, Clark requested an extension in the February 5 deadline to file motions, due to some heavily redacted circumstance that, according to him, constitutes a "significant impediment to his ability to assist in his own defense."

Clark, who in addition to the criminal election racketeering case in Georgia is facing a threat of disbarment, was allegedly one of the most prominent figures in the Justice Department pushing Trump's election conspiracy theories, and trying to push for federal officials to transmit a directive to Georgia to hold off on the certification of the election for President Joe Biden....

Trump has a plan to gum up co-defendant Jeffrey Clark's disbarment hearing: report

Former Trump Administration official Jeffrey Clark is facing disbarment — but not if former President Donald Trump has anything to say about it, reported Politico on Tuesday.

Specifically, Trump plans to use executive privilege claims to try to bar various officials from testifying in the proceedings against Clark, who was an instrumental figure in the alleged scheme to overthrow the 2020 presidential election and separately faces criminal prosecution in Georgia.

"In a letter to Clark dated Jan. 12, Trump attorney Todd Blanche urged Clark to ensure that neither he nor other witnesses talk about confidential conversations they had while Trump was in office," reported Kyle Cheney and Josh Gerstein. "Those conversations, Blanche said, could be covered by 'Trump’s executive privilege and other related privileges, including law enforcement privilege, attorney client privilege, and deliberative process privilege.'"...

Feds considered obstruction charges for Trump well before Jack Smith took over: report

Federal prosecutors in D.C. were considering obstruction charges well before Jack Smith became special counsel in Donald Trump's Jan. 6 criminal case, Politico reported Tuesday.

Smith eventually brought the obstruction charge against Trump this summer, but a newly unsealed court filing shows that prosecutors had long been pursuing evidence that would justify the obstruction charge, Politico reports.

"The new filing underscores the protracted and elaborate process that prosecutors undertook before bringing charges against Trump," writes Kyle Cheney. ...

'Legal clownery': Analysts ridicule Trump co-defendants for losses in Georgia court

Jeff Clark begged the federal court to give him more time to surrender to Fulton County because he didn't want to be "rushed." Legal analysts didn't think that it would fly, but it was still up in the air whether Meadows "delay for a day" request would be more persuasive.

Both failed, with a U.S. district court judge telling both men they had to submit to arrest by the deadline set by the district attorney last week.

Strategist and legal analyst Aaron Parnas said simply, "thoughts and prayers."...

Ex-Trump DOJ official loses 'childish' demand for extra time to turn himself in

Former Trump Justice Department official Jeffrey Clark has failed in his efforts to order the judge overseeing his criminal case in Georgia to give him extra time to turn himself in, according to a new document released by the court.

"Upon its own view of the Motion, the Court DENIES Clark's motion for an emergency stay," said the order.

The ruling was immediately met with approval from legal experts, with former White House ethics czar Norm Eisen posting on X, "His motion was an example of the same kind of lawyering that got him indicted in the first place."...
