The internet jeered Apple CEO Tim Cook after it was announced on Monday that he is stepping down.
Apple said in a statement that Cook will transition to the executive chairman role on Sept. 1, and that hardware expert John Ternus will assume the chief executive role. The move ends Cook's 15 years of leading the company, during which time he oversaw the development of the Apple Watch and AirPods.
"It has been the greatest privilege of my life to be the CEO of Apple and to have been trusted to lead such an extraordinary company," Cook said in the statement.
Political analysts and observers jeered Cook, who donated $1 million to President Donald Trump's inauguration campaign and gave the president an award during an awkward Oval Office visit last year, after the announcement.
"Good. He ens---tified Apple and bowed down to a dictator," Linda Stevens, a consultant and founder of Spatial Spirits, posted on Bluesky.
"He's decided to spend more time handing out gold statues to Donald Trump," author John Hatch posted on Bluesky.
"How will they fill the shoes of someone who made iPhone boring and bribed our dictator president?" former journalist Mark Wright posted on Bluesky.
"I wonder which cabinet position he was offered?" Cliff Gilmore, a retired military officer, posted on Bluesky.
