
Billions in foreign aid were frozen again after Chief Justice John Roberts granted Donald Trump’s emergency request to block a lower-court ruling that would have forced the administration to release the funds. The case stems from Judge Amir Ali’s finding that only Congress has the power to decide whether funding already allocated can be withheld. The frozen aid — nearly $5 billion — supports famine relief, HIV/AIDS prevention, refugee assistance, education for women and girls, and anti-drug efforts. The Supreme Court’s intervention leaves those programs in limbo until the lawsuit is resolved.
