President Donald Trump’s newly launched, AI-powered government website quickly backfired on Tuesday after users discovered the chatbot wasn’t sticking to the MAGA administration’s script.
The new America.gov chatbot referred to Trump as “former President Donald J. Trump” when asked whether a president had ever been criminally indicted.
“Yes. Official records show former President Donald J. Trump has been criminally indicted,” the chatbot responded, according to a screenshot shared by MeidasTouch.
The answer prompted immediate reactions online — and social media soon uncovered even more awkward responses.
“America.gov is woke,” political strategist Keith Edwards wrote.
“There is zero chance this website will stay up for 24 hours,” liberal political commentator Vince Wilson posted on X. “Trump’s ego won’t allow it.”
Former CNN correspondent Jim Acosta wrote, “This is cool,” while another social media user joked, “AI betraying Trump.”
Liberal commentator Brian Krassenstein put the chatbot to the test and found that it acknowledged former President Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory.
“Joseph R. Biden Jr. won the 2020 presidential general election held on November 3, 2020,” the chatbot responded, adding that he was sworn in on Jan. 20, 2021.
“Trump just rolled out AI Form America at America. gov.” Krassenstein wrote. “I think this will piss him off…”
The website launch comes as Trump is meeting Tuesday with high-profile technology and AI executives as part of what the White House has described as a “superintelligence summit.”
