Republican lawmakers facing a possible midterm "bloodbath" in November were warned on Wednesday to keep their distance from the GOP convention in Texas next week.
During an appearance on MS NOW, former Rep. Barbara Comstock (R-VA) was amazed that any lawmaker who is on the ballot in November would take valuable time away from campaigning to attend what is being called President Donald Trump’s “Trump-a-palooza.”
Comstock's advice? “Do. Not. Go.”
Speaking with host Alicia Menendez, Comstock laughed at the prospect of joining an event where the scandal-drenched Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton may be featured.
“Boy, I can't think of a better gift to the Democrats to take Donald Trump, who's in the low-to-mid 30s, and be dragging people off the campaign trail,” she mused. “And then add insult to it by saying, you've got to pay to be there in a picture with the guy at 33 percent”
“And hey, maybe we can get Ken Paxton to come over here who's even more unpopular, who's also been impeached like Donald Trump, but impeached by his own party,” she joked before twisting the knife and adding, “And maybe he'll bring his mistress along. And if you're lucky, hey, maybe we can get Natalie Harp to tweet about it for you.”
“I mean, this is insane to be taking them off the campaign trail,” she exclaimed. “And I can't believe people like Mike Rogers from Michigan, who's in a tight race, who's, you know, who's suffering from Trump's, you know, war with Canada and then [Republican Sen. Jon] Husted, who's already in trouble in Ohio. They're both saying they're going to go down there and pay to be part of this, what has been called a cluster-you-know what.”
As both host Menendez and contributor Sam Stein smiled, Comstock added with emphasis, “If you're a Republican: Do. Not. Go.”
