President Donald Trump's Dallas convention took a bizarre direction as the screen played a video, resurfaced from 2024, that essentially treated Trump as a modern-day Messiah.
"On June 14, 1946, God looked down on this planned paradise and said, 'I need a caretaker,' so God gave us Trump," the video opened with.
In no time, it went viral online, with commenters trashing the video as an idolatrous perversion of Christianity.
"This is actual blasphemy, by the way," wrote political consultant Matt Dearing.
"It only gets more unhinged and culty from there," wrote journalist Aaron Rupar.
"And the scariest part? This is just how the Republican Party is going to be for the rest of our lives," wrote political analyst Nick Field.
"Was there a special star in the sky?" said Bulwark staff writer Cathy Young.
"This is genuinely so strange," wrote Bulwark associate producer Ansley Skipper.
"And they spent the entire day yesterday calling James Talarico blasphemous," wrote Meidas Touch editor-in-chief Ron Filipkowski. "This should be repulsive to any real Christian, but these people worship Republican Jesus - Donald J. Trump."
