President Donald Trump’s professed support for a high-profile Republican congressman threw more than a few of his fans into a rage-filled tizzy Friday morning.
Trump praised Rep. Mike Lawler's (R-NY) recent appearance on a conservative news network — and was met with immediate scorn.
"Open Border RINO RAT,” Truth Social user Gravelrun raged at the president. “Get someone better. The guy is literally Scum."
Gravelrun and his ilk were responding to a surprisingly succinct message from the president, urging his followers to vote for Lawler in the 2026 midterm elections as experts warn Republicans could lose control of the House.
“Congressman Mike Lawler of New York was fantastic on FoxBusiness today," Trump wrote. "Important that we keep him in Congress. A total winner!!!"
That did not sit well with some of the president's fans who pointed out that Lawler has not toed the MAGA line, with many accusing the NY Republican of being a “Republican in Name Only” or “RINO”
While one Trump supporter was sympathetic, writing, “I know you can’t keep track of everything they do, but Lawler is from a purple district. His voting record in Congress has not been great. He’s improved somewhat since Biden was removed from office,” other were decidedly not on board.
“He sucks!" Darkhorse wrote. "Insisted on SALT deductions so we can contribute to reckless NY spending.”
Wrote Tigdigity, “Didn’t he just vote against a key piece of legislation? Against you Don?”
TimoHiggins hurled a demand at Trump, writing, “Lawler is an Israeli controlled RINO!!!! Stop pushing America second candidates!!!!”
“Use your position of power and influence to seek out an America First candidate who will work for WE THE PEOPLE," ranted HeraldEarnestGoodwill. "Lawler doesn't even have a Truth Social account... HE HAS NO REGARD OR CONCERN FOR WE THE PEOPLE!!!”
