President Donald Trump faced immediate pushback Thursday after claiming he had always said it would take four to six weeks to eliminate Iran’s nuclear threat — and that he accomplished the task “in one night.”

“I stated, numerous times, that it would take 4-6 weeks to get rid of THE IRAN NUCLEAR THREAT, and I did it in one night!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform. “The rest of the time is just to make sure it stays that way.”

CNN fact-checker Daniel Dale quickly challenged Trump’s account.

“The president is again trying to rewrite history about his own public comments,” Dale wrote on X. He noted that in multiple statements in March, Trump projected that the Iran war would last six weeks or less.

“He very much did not say, like, ‘That's six weeks or less to eradicate Iran's nuclear threat in particular, not for the war in general,’” Dale added.

Former Republican Rep. Joe Walsh was more blunt.

“He lies as he breathes,” Walsh wrote Thursday. “No one believes anything he says.”

The progressive MeidasTouch network pointed out how long the conflict has stretched beyond Trump’s initial four- to six-week timeline, writing, “The war has been going on for 7 months now btw.”

“All you can do is laugh,” The Bulwark’s Andrew Egger wrote.
