Trump smears 'crooked' New Mexico’s elections in bizarre demand to rename state

President Donald Trump called for New Mexico to change its name Monday, arguing that the state would become more prosperous if it adopted a new, more patriotic name.

"New Mexico should immediately change its name to New America," Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform. "We are not Mexico, we are the United States of America!"

Trump continued to make his case for the change in the unprompted social media rant, claiming it would bring economic benefits to the state.

"The name would add great value and prestige to the State! Home Values and Incomes would rise, and you would be even prouder while saluting our beautiful American Flag!"

The president ended his post Monday with a swipe at New Mexico's elections.

"Maybe even the Crooked Elections, that New Mexico is known for, would become honest again!" Trump wrote.
