Trump second term would leave Constitution and rule of law a 'dead letter': columnist

Former President Donald Trump's plans for a second term would go far beyond the boundaries of normal presidential behavior, warned columnist Jamelle Bouie in The New York Times — indeed, he wrote that his goals are designed to transform American democracy into a strongman regime.

This comes amid a number of reports that show Trump is planning to remake the civil service in his image, with the help of legacy far-right think tanks like the Heritage Foundation as his recruiter — and as he is telegraphing his plans to root out his political critics, whom he dehumanized as "vermin" in a recent speech.

After crushing losses across multiple states in last week's elections, Republican operatives are now urging former President Donald Trump to lean on Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel until she resigns.

According to CNBC, an ouster of McDaniel would be unlikely without a push from Trump as she was reelected to another two-year term in her position in January. Bur reportedly there are efforts within the Republican Party to force the RNC chairwoman's resignation ahead of the 2024 presidential election.

Sidney Powell: Trump trusted me because 'everybody else was telling him to pack up and go'

Former President Donald Trump's ex-legal adviser Sidney Powell had a simple explanation for Georgia prosecutors trying to figure out why the former president listened to her — even as she pushed bizarre conspiracy theories and claimed she could time travel and talk to the wind.

According to The Washington Post, she told attorneys working for Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis that Trump ignored White House counsel and listened to her instead “because we were the only ones willing to support his effort to sustain the White House. I mean, everybody else was telling him to pack up and go.”

Sidney Powell testimony blows up another key Trump defense: Washington Post reporter

Longtime Donald Trump associate Sidney Powell, an attorney who pushed election conspiracy theories that were espoused by a woman who believes she can speak with the wind, has taken a plea agreement in the Georgia election racketeering case — and part of her agreement involved admitting that the former president called her several times to check in on how her legal efforts to try to overturn the 2020 presidential election were coming along.

That's a problem, noted Washington Post reporter Aaron Blake on X, because it contradicts a defense that the former president made on his Truth Social platform attempting to throw Powell under the bus.

Project 2025, as it is also known, builds on Heritage's latest Mandate for Leadership, a series which since the Reagan administration has served as the right-wing think tank's to-do list for the next Republican president.

‘Devastating’: Jenna Ellis’ testimony she was told Trump ‘not going to leave’ stuns expert

At least one legal expert appeared stunned by Monday's bombshell ABC News report that former Trump White House lawyer Jenna Ellis said to Fulton County prosecutors Dan Scavino had told her that Trump "is not going to leave under any circumstances," despite being told he had lost the 2020 election.

"This is devastating in my view," declared Brad Moss, the well-known national security attorney. "Trump never had any intention of complying with the election results. He was told repeatedly in the presence of a convicted co-defendant that he had lost. He ignored it and conspired with his lawyers to overthrow the election anyway."
