Jonathan Karl's new book "Tired of Winning" was released Tuesday, and it revealed some of Donald Trump's responses after the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.
Among the details, the ABC News reporter recalls a series of emails trying to get an answer from the White House on whether they would condemn the "Hang Mike Pence" chants that broke out as the crowd erected a gallows.
Ironically, Karl recalls that a response from Judd Deere got stuck in his spam filter, saying only: “We strongly condemn all calls to violence, including those against any member of this administration.”
When Karl ultimately spoke directly to Trump, he didn't condemn the attacks on Pence at all, in fact, he seemingly justified them.
“The people were very angry,” Trump said. “It’s common sense, Jon.”
When speaking to the House Select Committee investigating the 2020 election and Jan. 6 attack, former Mark Meadows aide Cassidy Hutchinson recalled her boss "saying something to the effect of, 'You heard him Pat. He thinks Mike deserves it. He doesn't think they're doing anything wrong.'"
