President Donald Trump kept up his attacks on U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes hours after she said in court that her family was "freaking out" over reports of death threats from some of the president's supporters.
That did not stop the relentless Trump from posting about her again late Monday night, going on a rant about "Trash Island," as he described the property.
Reyes made the remarks Monday at a hearing on a lawsuit seeking to stop Trump’s overhaul of East Potomac Golf Links, a public course in Washington, D.C. She said her family had asked her about news reports of death threats. “This is where we are... A federal judge is getting death threats over a golf course,” she said, according to Forbes. “I really don’t think that’s what the founders envisioned.”
Trump posted on Truth Social at 11:43 p.m. Monday, calling the property “Trash Island,” then followed with a series of photos early Tuesday morning, Forbes reported. One photo was captioned “pictures of Trash Island for the Judge to study.”
“‘Trash Island,’ Washington, D.C., the nickname for the broken and dilapidated Golf Course that is the subject of frivolous litigation in the United States Court System, before a judge that seems not to want Greatness for our Capital or our Nation (but who knows?), has been badly managed for so many decades that it is a completely nonviable and unsafe Project,” Trump wrote. “Our Plan, developed to the Highest Levels and Standards of Golf, will turn Trash Island into an Island of Beauty and Success.”
He added that the Interior Department and its experts “are so proud of what has been designed that any delay would be sad, both for them and the Public, which is anxiously waiting for something that is really special!”
Earlier Monday, before the hearing, Trump called the judge “a crazed lunatic.” On Sunday, Reyes rejected a Justice Department request to remove her from the case after government lawyers accused her of bias.
At the hearing, Reyes asked, “So who do I believe? Do I believe the president of the United States or do I believe you?” Forbes reported that she issued no ruling that day.
