Critics howl over 'silly little cartoon' used to sell Trump bill

The U.S. Senate voted 51-49 Saturday on a procedural advancement of President Donald Trump's "big, beautiful bill." Trump is making a concerted effort to berate GOP senators into voting "yes" if the bill clears additional hurdles and advances to a full Senate vote, but Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) — one of the two Republican "no" votes on June 28 — is warning that the bill's draconian Medicaid cuts will really hurt his party in the 2026 midterms.

One of the tools that Republicans are using to sell the megabill is a cartoon that depicts Trump working at McDonald's and claims, "A vote against the bill is a vote to RAISE taxes on hardworking Americans." The cartoon also claims that the One Big, Beautiful Bill Act of 2025 "delivers the largest tax cut for middle- and working-class Americans in history" and "secures bigger paychecks, boosting the take-home pay for typical hardworking families by OVER $10,000 a year."

The cartoon is receiving a lot of attention on X, formerly Twitter.

Some Trump supporters are praising the cartoon.

Virginia-based MAGA Republican Michelle Maxwell tweeted, "I love it!"

Another MAGA supporter, Alex Collingbourne, wrote, in all caps, " IS THIS A COOL VIDEO OR WHAT?"

X user GreenLink posted, "Gavin Brookswin could probably make a killer documentary about the unhinged MAGA World livestream chaos. The content writes itself!"

Patty Wexler, founder of the investment firm Avila VC, tweeted, "Being anti-renewables is not anti-woke, it’s anti-progress The Spain blackouts were misunderstood, and now the energy provisions in the Big Beautiful Bill seem equally misguided."

X user Casey Costigan posted, "Donald Trump is about to go live on Facebook to discuss the Big Beautiful Bill and there's this silly little cartoon of him from pretending to work at McDonald's that one time during his campaign trail. Gotta love it folks! Whatever you do, reach out to your congressman, senators and legislators and tell them 'NO' and make your voices heard to vote against this bill! We are not going back!"
