White House: German president to meet Biden in Washington on Friday

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will pay a surprise visit to Washington on Friday for a meeting with US President Joe Biden, the White House said on Thursday. The meeting in the US capital is intended to reaffirm "our close coordination as NATO Allies on a range of important issues such as defending democratic values and our shared commitment to support Ukraine as it defends itself from Russia’s invasion," the White House said in a statement.
