Meghan Markle, wife to Prince Harry, has won token damages of £1 from one of Britain's biggest newspaper groups after an appeals court ruled in her favor over a privacy case.

The sum, equating to $1.40 or 1.20 euros, is payable by Associated Newspapers for misuse of private information, and it will also have to pay a "confidential sum" for infringing her copyright.

Tiger bites off keeper's hand at Japan safari park: Kyodo

A tiger bit off a keeper's hand and attacked two other people at a safari park near Tokyo, Japanese media reported Wednesday.

The tiger, a 10-year-old male Bengal who was around two metres (6.5 feet) in length and weighed 150 kilograms (330 pounds), attacked as the three keepers were preparing for the day at the Nasu Safari Park in Tochigi prefecture around 8.30 am, Kyodo news agency reported.

Canada agrees to $31 billion compensation for Indigenous children taken from families

Canada announced a $31.5 billion agreement on Tuesday to reform its discriminatory child welfare system and compensate Indigenous families who suffered because of it, in what an official called the country's largest settlement.

The agreements-in-principle include $20 billion Canadian dollars ($15.7) for First Nations children who were removed from their families and caregivers and put into state care, typically schools meant to forcibly assimilate them.

Kazakhstan declares state of emergency in protest-hit city, province
