Florida Rep. Alan Grayson tore into GOP presidential candidate and fellow Florida lawmaker, Sen. Marco Rubio, calling his stance on Syrian refugees "pathetic" in an interview with the Huffington Post.
"He is doing what Marco Rubio always does," Grayson said, when asked by host Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani whether Rubio was flip-flopping. "He's trying to make a political calculation about which position will win him the most votes, or the most money from his campaign supporters. That's pathetic. People's lives are at stake here."
Grayson went on to say that Rubio must have a 'hard, hard heart" to look at a situation where lives are at risk and make a decision based on what is most politically advantageous.
When asked if he thought Rubio was sincere in his intolerance toward refugees, Grayson responded with, "As far as I can tell, Marco Rubio has never been sincere in any statement that he's made since puberty."
The host pressed further, pointing out that fellow GOP candidates Donald Trump and Ben Carson have driven the Republican Party's rhetoric so far to the right that it's hard to know whether Rubio is just angling for votes or means what he says.
Grayson said the small number of voters who vote in the GOP primary are forcing candidates to play "Who's the biggest bigot."
