Coming out of a long Election Night when Wolf Blitzer's name began trending with people attacking him for his interactions with John King, Blitzer, 68, came back for another round. Wednesday afternoon, Blitzer couldn't stop spreading the sexism ahead of and following Hillary Clinton's formal concession speech.
"It's going to be an emotional moment for Hillary Clinton," Blitzer said while we waiting for Clinton to come out. "I've seen her get sentimental, at times. I've seen her choke up. I've seen her cry. I don't know if that's going to happen this time."
He went on to speculate on how much rehearsal Clinton has had with this concession speech.
During Clinton's speech, she remarked, "this is painful and it will be for a long time." Before saying "it will be for a long time," Clinton's tone changed. Blitzer mistook Clinton's shrug-sounding voice for being on the brink of tears. She wasn't. But he ran with it.
"Hillary Clinton: Very, very emotional speech," Blitzer continued. "You saw her holding back, choking back those tears. She is, uh, well known for being very, very emotional on these kinds of moments. Clearly, a sad moment for her."
Clinton has actually been criticized throughout the years, and certainly this election, for not being emotional enough and often times being hardened.
CNN panelist Carl Bernstein, 71, then remarked on what the Clintons were wearing, something often brought up about professional women in politics and other professions.
"One last point, here, is the purple that was worn by both her and former President Bill Clinton," Bernstein began. "I couldn't help but notice it. It's the color of spirituality. It's the color of mourning. It's the color of mystery. I can't believe it was an accident."
CNN reporter Gloria Borger later mentioned that purple was also a combination of red and blue, like the red and blue states that must come together after the election. Or perhaps even that this is a divided electorate between red and blue voters.
Reporter Dana Bash also noted that purple was also one of the colors of the suffragette movement, along with white and gold.
