News that President Donald Trump has been talking with witnesses in special counsel Robert Mueller's probe about their testimonies is apparently not sitting well with chief of staff John Kelly.
A White House source tells CNN's Jim Acosta that Kelly and other White House staffers have warned Trump regularly to not talk with Mueller witnesses about their testimony, as it could constitute witness tampering.
"It's pretty clear that Kelly admonishes him constantly and he's not the only one," the source tells Acosta.
The New York Times on Wednesday reported that Trump had talked with both White House counsel Don McGahn and former chief of staff Reince Priebus about their testimonies with Mueller. In particular, Trump reportedly instructed McGahn to deny reports that he had tried to get Mueller fired last year -- despite the fact that McGahn knew first-hand that this was untrue.
