On Wednesday, a CNN panel hosted by Wolf Blitzer ridiculed President Donald Trump for signing a deal to have a Trump Tower built in Moscow.
Trump has consistently lied about his business relationship with Russia, however, the documents show that Trump signed a contract to have his real estate built in Moscow.
"I just think it's extraordinary. When you consider that Donald Trump has spent now years saying he has no business with Russia, he didn't have anything to do with Russia," Blitzer said.
CNN's Abby Phillip said that the news is "worrisome" because Vladimir Putin knew for two years that the president was lying.
"It is striking," she said. "This was a lie in and of itself, but I think something that is worrisome, politically for the president, because it means that Vladimir Putin knew it was a lie."
"People in Russia knew that it was a lie. And it's something that clearly influenced the president's foreign policy for much of the last two years of his presidency, and that's the core of the concern about it," she said.
Phillip added, "Maybe it's not illegal, but it certainly raises a lot of questions about where are the checks and balances to prevent this sort of situation from happening in the future?"
