President Donald Trump attacked Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell in an Oval Office press question time on Thursday as Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni sat beside him.

A reporter inquired about a post Trump made on Truth Social on Thursday morning, in which he blasted Powell and called for interest rate cuts. The reporter noted that Powell has said he won't leave his post, even if Trump asks him to.

"I don't think he's doing the job," Trump said of Powell. "He's too late. Always too late. A little slow, and I'm not happy with him. I let him know it. Oh, if I want him out, he'll be out of there real fast, believe me."

A reporter shouted a question about whether Trump is trying to remove Powell, but the president moved on.

Powell told the central bank on Wednesday that he will "wait for greater clarity" before considering any rate cuts. He also commented on Trump's tariffs, stating that they would likely lead to "higher inflation and slower growth."
