Speaking to a crowd on Friday, President Barack Obama urged more American women to get into government, and even suggested that "more women in Congress" would practically guarantee that more gets done.

The president was speaking about women and the economy following the White House's publication of a 65-page report (PDF) on how women's issues can continue to be advanced in Washington and workplaces.

Echoing one of the report's key findings, Obama said that in the last decade, "women have earned well over half the higher education degrees awarded in America, but once they get out of college, we still have a lot of ground to cover."

He went on: "Just three percent of Fortune 500 CEOs are women. Fewer than 20 percent of the seats in Congress are occupied by women. Is it possible that Congress would get more done if there were more women in Congress? Is that fair to say, Joe? I think it's fair to say. That is almost guaranteed."
