During Friday night's panel discussion on Real Time with Bill Maher, guests Eliot Spitzer, Chrystia Freeland and Michael Steele weighed in the Republican Party's little "rape is God's will" problem.
Earlier this week, Indiana senate candidate Richard Mourdock stunned many Americans when he professed that "...life begins at conception. The only exception I have for to have an abortion is in the case of the life of the mother. I struggled with myself for a long time but I came to realize life is that gift from God, even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape. It is something that God intended to happen.”
During the Real Time episode, host Bill Maher noted that Presidential hopeful Willard "Mitt" Romney has yet to distance himself form Mourdock's remarks. To date, Romney has refused withdraw his endorsement of Mourdock in the Indiana race.
Yet, there are some Republicans willing to point out Mourdock's incendiary remarks for what they are. "People use God to express idiocy," said ex-Republican Party Chairman Michael Steele during the panel discussion.
