NBC has committed to moving The Tonight Show to New York and replacing longtime host Jay Leno with current Late Night host Jimmy Fallon.

The New York Times on Wednesday reported that the network had not decided on an exact timetable to move back from Burbank, California to the city where it debuted in 1954. The switch was expected to take place by the fall of 2014.

During his Monday night monologue, Leno had referred to his NBC bosses as "snakes," signaling that a change was likely.

"You know the whole legend of St. Patrick, right? St. Patrick drove all the snakes out of Ireland, and then they came into the United States and became NBC executives," the Tonight Show host said.

An NBC spokesperson declined to comment to the Times about the report.
